Midas Hits the Show Scene
Well Midas has just had his third show and I'm really pleased with him. He copes with the busy halls no trouble, a very confident and happy chap.
His first show was Exonian open show. He was a good boy in his AVNSC class and won that class and took Reserve best AVNSC and best AVNSC puppy. Onto the puppy group and I was blown away for my 6 month 1 day old little dork of a puppy to be shortlisted in a large puppy group, and I couldn't believe it when he took Puppy Group 3! So pleased with him on his debut as such a raw youngster.
We went to Bristol for his next show, and my handling was atrocious. I never claim to be an even half competent handler, but some days I am worse than others. The show scene is a bit of an intimidating place for me; I feel much more comfortable with my dogs in muddy fields! Poor lad. He was placed 3rd in Post Grad and BPIB.
The following weekend was his first champ show. It wasn't quite so disastrous as the previous week, though I still have some work to do, and he was placed 3rd in Minor Puppy and Puppy, thus qualifying for Crufts 2019. I'm really looking forward to taking the little hooligan up to Crufts, and hope that we will get to see his breeder again and the owner of his father.
All in all, a good few weeks. He is also coming on in his training, he will happily pick cold game and return it to hand. He was a little possessive of the birds the first time he was out, but the last couple of sessions have been no trouble. He just really, really likes the birdies.
I'm hopeful that Drake may get into the show ring again next year. He has been a total star out in the field so far this year, he is just amazing to watch. Rookie is a good dog and does the job well, but he is quite speedy and just wants to do, do, do. Drake is so methodical and steady, I love having him out. The boys work really well together too, so patient and attentive.
